AMERICAN STAFF:

James Nardella - Executive Director

As the Executive Director, James leads the programs in Kenya and the fund raising and awareness efforts in the U.S. He has a background in communications and international community development and holds a M.Ed. in International Education Policy and Leadership from Vanderbilt University. He has worked with communities in Africa, Central Asia, South America, and South East Asia. In 2007, James managed the founding of a secondary school in Southwest Kenya. Outside of his work in international development, James had a career in New York City as an actor in theatre, film, and TV. He continues to use these skills to make short films and to advocate for the people of Lwala.

Caitlin Reiner - Kenya Program Manager

As Kenyan Program Manager, Caitlin works with the Kenyan staff in Lwala to improve the quality of care and to plan for new programs. A graduate of Dartmouth College, Caitlin’s background is in history and secondary education.  She is also pursuing a master’s degree in public health at Columbia University, focusing on reproductive health in the developing world.  She has been traveling to and from Kenya since 2005, when she helped to establish Lwala’s secondary school scholarship program. In addition to spending time in Lwala, she has worked in Kisumu and Sondu with street children and orphans.  She was a founding board member of the Lwala Community Alliance. Caitlin has also interned with the International Family AIDS Program, helping to provide HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment to people in the Dominican Republic.

Katherine Falk - U.S. Program Coordinator

Katherine joined the Lwala team in the fall of 2009. As U.S. Program Coordinator she works with volunteers, plans events, and keeps track of all things related to fund raising. Her background is in education and counseling with at-risk children and she holds an M.Ed. from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. Prior to joining the Alliance staff, Katherine conducted and published educational research and coordinated a federally funded research center at Vanderbilt University. She also has extensive grant writing experience. Katherine has worked with underresourced communites in Romania, Northern Ireland, and Kenya. In particular, she has been involved in holistic development efforts in the Turkana region of northwest Kenya and currently serves on the board of Share International. In addition, she currently directs an afterschool reading program for inner-city children.
